It was a sunny warm day at the inaugural spring edition of the Adams Morgan Porchfest, and there were a lot of great bands. But when the Experience Band took the main stage, everything was elevated: a higher level of energy, a higher sense of enthusiasm, a higher vibration. This is what a show should do–amplify not just the music but the excitement, the fun, the love, the joy. It was not so much listening to music or watching a show, it was being the music and the show. The band-the music-the performance-the audience as one organism, one experience.
Travis Garner led the way with his trombone and seemingly never-ending enthusiasm, riling up both his band-mates and the audience. The crowd, already large when the band took the stage, continued to grow to the largest I have ever seen at Porchfest. And as the band played their “ja-fun-go” music, the energy level went up and up, while inhibitions went down. Dancing, singing, shouting and smiling, the audience was just a much a part of the experience as was the band, and the experience was unforgettable.
Here is how I saw it…
