Back at the 2014 Art All Night, while I was taking a break from shooting, I heard these ooh’s and ah’s from a small crowd across the street. I grabbed my camera and ran over to find children and adults with dropped jaws or wide smiles, and eyes widened in amazement at this faerie doing things with soap bubbles that were nothing short of magic. This was the first of many wonderful experiences I have had with Jennifer Shannon (@spiltsoap on Instagram). Now, about a half-block from where I first saw her, I am thrilled that Jennifer will be weaving her wizardry at The Fire and the Cross.
I invite you to lose yourself in the ethereal space between all things and moments. Jennifer’s performance is a channeling from realms beyond, an invitation to be fully present for the magic of each moment, a reflection. A soap artist for more than 15 years, her work evokes wonder and awe, and inspires a deeper appreciation of the principles surrounding sacred geometry, physics, biology, movement, awareness, and meditation…
Jennifer’s curated costumes and characters synergize with her medium and apparatus to create illusion and mystery. Using her hands and minimal props, she creates bubbles unlike any other.
Her roaming acts incorporate large scale bubble wands which cascade across the landscape and over the masses. She connects with groups and individuals intimately through science, whimsy and humor. Her stage acts take bubbles to the next level with ethereal movement and flow, and vapor, smoke and fire effects.
On Saturday night, Jennifer will be performing at 10:30 under the spotlights between The Fire and the Cross canvases. Although we cannot ignite those bubbles inside, it promises to be an intimate performance filled with awe and amazement (and you can catch her fire show a little later at the Art All Night Shaw main stage). I am honored to have Jennifer join The Fire and the Cross line-up, and am excited to present her to you.
